Fences 6 Brings an Entirely New Color Expression to the Desktop

Last week, we released the second beta of Fences 6 as we continue to refine the new features and experiences ahead of the general release later this month. And one of the new features in Fences 6 is the ability to tint icons on your desktop and inside your Fences groups.
What is icon tint? Simply put, it’s changing the color of the icon on your desktop but with the feature in Fences, you can uniformly control them so that it creates a singular color expression for your desktop.

It’s a subtle feature that when you see it in a screenshot, it may not become immediately obvious but once you understand it, it elevates how the design of the desktop. Take a look at the two screenshots with a similar layout, one with tint enabled and the other with the default colors – it puts more focus on the wallpaper and less on the icons.

Changing the color of your icons isn’t for everyone and it’s not always about trying to reduce distractions. With the ability to apply a color to an individual Fence, it can be used to help quickly identify icons that are associated with a task or file type as well.
Like all Stardock products, the options for customization are endless – you can manually select any color that you want or use the new eye dropper tool to grab the exact color from your wallpaper for perfect pixel matching. And if you like things on the wild side, you can also choose very bright colors to give icons a neon-like expression.
When paired with tabs, the new color expressions for icons gives Fences 6 an entirely new ability to personalize your desktop. If you haven’t tried Fences 6 yet, you can learn more about it on the app page and it’s also available in the award-winning suite, Object Desktop.
